Bloodline: Half-Blood Wand: Ebony, 13 1/2", Dragon heartstring core. Wand Hand: Right Familiar: A spotten owl; sadly, the bird is currently without a name. Severus either calls it "Bird", or refers to it as "the owl". Raithen Cain refers to the bird as "Pablo", claiming the bird told her to name it such.  Appearance: Snape is not now, nor will he ever be, considered handsome under any circumstances. His face is angular and sallow, longish and rather like that of the vampires of ancient lore (and urban legend, for that matter}. His body is bony and thin, almost to the point of lankiness, an appearance enhanced by his towering height. At a looming six-feet, five inches, he is anything but diminutive. Commonly dressed in billowing black robes, he does bear the presence of an overgrown bat. His black eyes are set deep under dark brows, and glitter more often with malice rather than spirit - and never with warmth. He has a thin mouth that is rarely comforting - indeed, it is most often set in a cold scowl until such a time as a foolish and unwary student crosses him; then it tilts upward in a vicious smirk. His voice is baritone, and can range from dangerously low to a fierce roar, but is most unnerving when he speaks with smugness; his tone then becomes silky and threatening. His most striking physical attributes are his large, hooked nose and his shoulder-length, oily black hair, thanks to which he has, though not commonly until the recent past, been dubbed with the loathed nickname, "The Greasy Git". His hands are long and tapered, with thin, spindly fingers, and bring to mind a pair of pallid spiders; his nails are clean, and are kept short and filed to avoid any accidents over an unstable mixture in the lab. On his forearm, where the Dark Mark once was emblazoned, there is now a wretched scar, a horrid reminder of his Death Eater days. Home: Spinner's End, Ryedale, England Parents: Tobias and Eileen Snape Parents' quirks: They have an odd habit of being dead. Siblings: One was, apparently, enough. History: Birth and Home Life: Severus was born in southern Wales, the only son of Tobias and Eileen Snape. Tobias, a Muggle, was then what Severus is now: brutal, controlling, and unerringly vicious. His thrill in life was found in the torment of his wife and child. Severus learned quickly that Tobias was not to be trifled with; beatings were the norm in the Snape household. More than once, the young boy was forced to watch his mother cower beneath his father's heavy hand. To say that there was love in his home would be a lie. Why his parents ever married and produced a child is beyond his comprehension, and he stated so, quite plainly, many times. Early Education: Tobias almost refused to send Severus to Hogwarts in the first place. However, having the boy out from underfoot seemed more compelling an argument than having him around to help with the chores around their meager home. Magic was absolutely forbidden when Tobias was present, and this resulted in great difficulty for Eileen, who was forced to use Muggle means to achieve any ends to keep her husband's hands from flying to her face. Severus was educated in a muggle elementary school, and tutored in Wizardry by his mother whenever Tobias wasn't around. Life at Hogwarts: Hogwarts for Severus was a welcome release from the horrors of his home - at least, for a while. He excelled immediately in Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts, and by his third year, showed an uncanny talent for Occlumency. After a brief sojourn from the torment his father presented, he found himself suffering under the merciless hexes of James Potter and Sirius Black. His life was affected on a day-to-day basis; the undesirable nickname, "Snivellus", came in to common use in the non-Slytherin student body, and clumsy duels broke out in the halls whenever James, Sirius, or Severus would cast an unwarranted hex. The climactic point of this feud between himself and the two Gryffindors occurred in his fifth year, right after the OWL exams. The events left an emotional wound on him which would never completely close. Later, as the mutual aggression increased, Severus overheard a staged conversation that would come very close to causing his death. He never forgave the boys as they grew in to men and started their respective adult lives, and couldn't honestly say that he regretted their deaths. After Hogwarts: In his seventh year at Hogwarts, Severus became acquainted, through a peer, with Lucius Malfoy. The man, blonde-haired and blue eyed, was rich, charismatic and very learned in the Dark Arts. Their power-hungry natures were well suited, and they became friends, exchanging conversation via owl. It wasn't long before Malfoy introduced Snape to the idea of "Mudblood Eradication". At such a young age, and given his history, acceptance was dear to him - especially that of the upper-class societies of the wizarding community. One wrong step would put him out of favor with Malfoy; therefore, before Severus Snape graduated from school, he made sure to be inducted to the lower ranks of the Death Eaters. Slowly but steadily, he rose to power in the name of the Dark Lord; his magical abilities became more refined and enhanced as he aged, and for a while, he was content to serve. But then, something changed. It occurred to Snape, after a time, that Voldemort was a madman, with no clear concept of the reasoning behind muggle-wizard segregation. He was simply an overgrown boy with more than a bit of a sociopathical tendency. It was when Snape turned over a half-heard prophecy to the Dark Lord - the fateful action that would bring about the deaths of Lily and James Potter - that the idea cemented in his mind that Voldemort cared for nothing and no one. He would achieve his ambitious dreams...and kill off everyone who helped him reach them. He didn't seem the type to share, and Severus held no illusions of friendship or commraderie with the man. In a wise move, conducted so masterfully as to appear an excellent idea in the eyes of Voldemort, Snape turned a humble, repentive face to Albus Dumbledore, the rumored leader of the Order of the Phoenix. For the time being, Severus had an inkling that playing spy for Dumbledore would be more worth his while - and amply more rewarding - than cowtowing for Voldemort until the end of his days. Dumbledore must have seen the benefits of having a pet Death Eater in his ranks, and was glad, if not quick, to lend a hand... But one hand washes the other. Desperate times call for desperate measures, is how the old addage goes. Severus managed to gain the trust of his new leader in the form of an Unbreakable Vow. Dumbledore trusted him without question after that moment. And so, Severus took up a teaching position as Master of Potions at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, from which institution he commenced his activities as spy and erstwhile Death Eater, while convenienently keeping others at arm's length to avoid any uncomfortable questions. In 1997, atop the Astronomy tower, things came to a head, and Severus brought about the death of his employer and commander in the form of an Unforgivable. The act was carried - planned in advance between Dumbledore and Snape - was conveniently performed in front of Harry Potter. Severus, forced to flee that very night, was forced to "reveal his true colors" by turning to the Dark Lord's army as a true Death Eater. When Voldemort fell, Severus was arrested and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in Azkaban - one for murder, and one for the casting of an Unforgivable. He served a total of three months, until irrefutable evidence - in the form of memories stored by Dumbledore himself - was presented to the Wizengamot. Having been released on his own recogniscence and cleared of all charges for exactly one month, and feeling heady with the burden, boredom, and thrill of freedom, Severus has managed to do one more idiotic thing with his life: romantically attach himself to an ex-lover. He is due for the official ball and chain some time in the next year. He hasn't quite convinced himself to seek psychiatric help. Marital Status: Oddly enough, engaged. Sexual Preference: Women. Not men, animals, vegetables, broomsticks, underage witches or wizards, wands, or Axminster rugs. Women. Appreciates: Very little.
